Diatomaceous Earth – A natural product with many benefits

Whilst researching a natural and eco friendly wormer for my dog I came across diatomaceous earth. Digging a bit deeper I found that this is some kind of “wonder” product meaning it can be used for all sorts of ailments and parasitic prevention as well as human consumption (food grade version). It seems to benefit not only animals but also humans in that it can lower cholesterol. Furthermore it can be used as an extremely mild abrasive for example in toothpaste and as a facial scrub. It is totally bio degradable, non toxic (as with all food type supplements one has to follow instructions…) and very effective if used correctly. It is organic and 100% vegan. It contains amongst other minerals and trace elements silica which has proven benefits for healthier skin and nails as well as bones.

Having read extensively about this product I have now ordered a 200 gram jar and shall be putting this to the test over the next few weeks. I shall report back with my findings…

Skincare product packaging news

We will be switching from black lotion pumps to clear flip top caps on our shampoos, conditioners, liquid soaps and lotions. this may not be the most hip designer look but the caps are more environmentally friendly than the pumps (i.e. the caps are 100% recyclable) and they are 99% leak proof when sending out products or if you want to take the bottles with you when travelling. Pumps have a habit of snapping open and when you want to lock a bottle you loose product because you have to press the pump down and turn it. Tedious at the best of times and rather frustating more often than not! Great looking though and practical for home use – which is why we are offering the pumps for purchase separately.

There is a new 5ml pump dispenser that we want to offer – ideal when travelling or if you want to take a cream or lotion with you in your handbag but haven’t got the space to lug large bottles and jars around with you. You may also purchase either 25ml or 50ml PET bottles that come with a secure phenolic cap 9so product doesn’t spill out) – these are ideal for when you go on holiday for 1 up to 3 weeks. Just use a funnel and dispense your preferred lotion or shampoo/wash/soap into the smaller bottle, cap it and job done.

Our organic aloe and shea face cream as well as our aloe vera gels will be offered in 50ml white fully recyclable and airless jars. This is far more hygenic than dipping your finger into the cream or gel and leaves it fresher for longer – less contamination which means a longer shelf life without the need for allergy causing preservatives! Fantastic.

Seborrheic Keratosis

What a mouthful of a description for a skin disorder! Or so I thought. I am relieved though as it’s not skin cancer…

I recently noticed that more and more “brown spots” appeared on my torso. I like sunny days and I like warm weather but I am not an avid sunbather hence imagine my horror when those spots began to grow – sort of. Some of them became larger and larger and that worried me.

Off I went to see my GP who mumbled something about “skin tags” and that I had to learn to live with them. Upon returning home I did a search on the internet and it’s not skin tags. It’s seborrheic keratosis. this can apparently be treated with laser treatment, liquid nitrogen or some other rather unpleasant procedures like cutting them out. Now, I have dozens if not hundreds of those spots all over my torso. Hence cutting them out is not an option….

I have no idea how to get hold of liquid nitrogen and so I am trying ordinary wart removal potions at the moment. If that doesn’t work then I am going for laser removal of the largest spots.

I keep you posted. And by the way – this is not contagious but it could be a hereditary condition. It is apparently very common in people over the age of 50 although I have seen images of babies developing this skin disorder and quite badly at that.
